I didn’t know that Mick Jagger reviewed books….

From the 2011 Soho Crime catalogue & from the CB editions website, a celebrity blurb (I wonder if it pays well?).

Rules of Play by Jennie Walker

Very original. I loved it.”  Mick Jagger.

And now I’m in the mood to play Beast of Burden.

  1. I didn’t know he could read books… :-)

  2. Blurbs have been a pet peeve lately. The book sounded quite good actually, but the blurb put me off.

  3. Where on Soho’s site does this blurb appear? It does accompany the entry for the book. It does appear on the CB editions site — and CB editions was founded by the author. This leaves open the possibility that the blurb was a little vanity joke, that the author/publisher is a Stones fan, that Jagger liked the book, and that the author/publisher was so tickled that he posted the blurb.

    • Genuine quote, no joke. (This is the author/publisher writing.) A bookseller friend sold one of the first copies to Jagger; then asked him, when Jagger called by a week later, if he’d liked it and if he could offer a quote for the cover.

      • Thanks for visiting Charles and clearing that up. I first saw the quote in the Soho catalogue and then it leaped out at me again on the CB Editions website. I had to go back and check Soho in case I’d imagined it.

  5. It’s in the Soho catalogue. I did a double-take when I saw it. I wondered if someone was taking the piss…

  6. Been meaning to tell you that I dig your blog, Guy (a recent discovery for me found through Tom of A Common Reader>/em>’s site not too long ago). By the way, although I hear you about the musician-as-critic book blurb thing being kind of annoying, I’d trust Jagger’s opinion over Sting’s if you know what I mean. Cheers!
